With fewer than 30 days to go until the end of the month deadline, 7,409 out of 10,293 community pharmacies in England have yet to file their 2026 Data Security and Protection Toolkit.
The DSPT is an online self-assessment tool used across health and social care in England to help organisations manage and protect personal and confidential information properly. The toolkit is mandatory for any organisation that processes or accesses NHS health and care data.
Completing the Toolkit is how pharmacies make their annual information governance (IG) declaration. It is a mandatory requirement under the NHS Terms of Service and must be completed by 30 June. Pharmacies that fail to register are at risk of losing NHSmail and EPS access.
Community Pharmacy England provides a number or resources to help contractors complete the Toolkit:
- Toolkit completion: Overview – five steps for completing the DSP Toolkit 2026 -Five steps for completing
- On‑demand webinar: CPE and the NHS DSPTK team explain the new MFA question and outline other changes - On-demand webinar
- Question‑by‑question guidance (mandatory questions) - Question-by-question guidance
- For owners with three or more pharmacies: using the NHS Parent Organisation Code batch submission - Batch POC guidelines
